Volunteer with Behind the Book, a non-profit literacy organization that inspires New York City public school students to explore stories and empower their voices.
You need no experience or training. As a coach, you’ll support and encourage students as they work on their projects.
This writing workshop needs your help at MS/HS 223 in the South Bronx. To sign up, contact volunteer(at)behindthebook.org with program code 2238TM-S.
Date/Time: Monday, May 6th / 1:40 – 3:20 PM (please arrive 15 minutes early for orientation)
About the program: “I am Alfonso Jones” by Tony Medina, the first graphic novel for young readers to focus on police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, was the inspiration for eighth-graders to create their own graphic novels. Coaches will help small groups develop their storyboards for the project.
